Ian McEwan

[edit]

Please don't just copy web pages, as you have just done for Ian McEwan. They are almost always unusable in Wikipedia terms, and have to be deleted for copyright reasons. As you see, we already have a McEwan page. You are welcome to edit that, but please note the copyright warning appearing below the edit box.

Band Music

[edit]

Welcome to wikipedia. We have been writing on different topics related to Bangladesh. It would be great if you write about the band profiles. However, please do not COPY from other websites. Just rephrase contents. Also put proper category tags at the end so we can look into them in an organized manner. Finally, thanks for your efforts. --Ragib 21:15, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Wiki Portal Bangladesh

Voting for Biography collaboration of the week

[edit]

Hi, the article Sheikh Hasina has been nominated for voting at "Biography collaboration of the week". What this will do is that for a week, people of the team would contribute to make the article enriched, balanced and complete. Since this is an article about a Bangladeshi politician and a rich article would promote Bangladesh more, I think regardless of political beliefs we can vote for it. Even if you are opposed to her political ideology, you can be sure that both her positive and negative sides would be presented in a Collaboration of the week article. Please vote at Wikipedia:Biography Collaboration of the Week#Sheikh Hasina .28July_21.29 by signing your name with # ~~~~ . Thanks. --Ragib 04:22, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the vote, if you know any other interested person, spread the message, the vote would conclude in 2 days, so we need some more votes to have it chosen. Thanks. --Ragib 07:58, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject Theatre March 2008 Newsletter

[edit]
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (March 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 1 - March, 2008

Hello and welcome to this, the first ever edition of the WikiProject Theatre Newsletter! If you haven't been over to the WikiProject page lately then you're missing out - the whole thing has undergone a complete makeover - see below for more info!
On top of this, we have brand spanking new templates (such as this one) and a completely revamped Collaboration of the Month - again, see below for more info on all of this.
Finally, a warning - the new-look WikiProject is still having the finishing touches put on it. If you find something that doesn't work, you don't agree with or is just plain missing, please don't hesitate to let us know on the WikiProject's talk page. We'll try our very best to fix ASAP!

New Look

As mentioned above, the WikiProject has recently undergone a spring-clean and we're dead excited about it! If you don't mind - we'd like to take this opportunity to explain some of the features and generally show off about it a little.

  • Colour scheme Those clashing colours have gone! All pages on the WikiProject now use two consistent shades of blue as part of the new streamlined interface (Those techies amongst us may wish to know that the precise names of the colours we use are: "lightsteelblue" for headings and "#c0e0e0" for backgrounds).
  • Navigation Menu Every page on the WikiProject now has the official WikiProject navigation menu so you can easily flick between pages and get back to the main project page. Say goodbye to clicking the back button several times!
  • To Do list/Open Tasks If you're stuck on what to do to help us then a list of the most important tasks is now available on the main page - no more excuses! At the moment, the list is looking a little short so if you have found something that you think ought to be added, then feel free to edit the list and let us know. Please refrain from linking to a specific article that generally needs an overall update. Single articles like this should be nominated for a future Collaboration of The Month - see below.
  • Article Structure This is a first for the WikiProject and is still under construction. What is the Article Structure page? Well, it's basically a rough guideline of sections to include when creating theatre-related articles - in particular, plays. As the scope of this WikiProject is so large, some sections of the Article Structure won't apply to all articles and other sections which will apply to a small cross-section of our article base have not been included in this Article Structure page. If you feel we have missed out something crucial which needs adding to most or all theatre-related articles then feel free to discuss it on either the Article Structure talk page or the main WikiProject talk page
Templates

All of the project's templates are now arranged in one handy page. Whilst we were going through we also noticed some that were missing. We have now added new templates in the form of:

  • {{WPTWelcome}} - a welcome tag to be placed on the talk page of a new user.
  • {{User WPTheatre}} - a userbox for members of the project.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Theatre/Sidebar}} - this template should be added to the side of any/all pages within the project to help navigate between project pages.
  • {{WPTheatre User}} - the template containing the latest edition of the WikiProject Newsletter (you're looking at it now!)
Collaboration of the Month

Ok, so this isn't exactly a new feature. It's always been there but has never really been updated on a, ahem, monthly basis (the clue is in the title!). The Collaboration of the Month (COTM) is now in template form to enable it to be streamlined across the Project, without having to be manually updated on each page. Don't worry if we've lost you at this point - the point is, it works! You can now nominate an article for COTM on the COTM page and we promise to adhere to it this time! It will be updated monthly! The more sharp-eyed amongst you may well have noticed that the COTM at the moment is still that old fella, August Strindberg. That's because no-one has nominated a COTM for this month (being a new feature an' all...) so we've decided to leave it as it is for this month until a new one has been democratically voted for.

And finally...

Thanks very much for reading down this far - hopefully future newsletters won't be this long! Please, if you can, invite new members and drop us a line over at the talk page to let us know what you think of the new look/newsletter and any suggestions you may have.

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Participants on the WikiProject page. WikiProject Theatre April 2008 Newsletter

[edit]
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (April 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 2 - April, 2008

Welcome to the second edition of the WikiProject Theatre Newsletter. This month's newsletter is focused mainly on recruitment and generally upping the profile of the WikiProject. Read on to find out more...

Recruitment

Just in case you haven't had a chance to head on over to our new-look WikiProject yet, this is to let you know that on the Templates page there is now a new "Welcome banner" which is to be placed on any new members talk pages. However, it is yet to be used as we haven't had any new members join the WikiProject within the last month! If you know of a user which has been contributing to theatre-related articles recently then why not drop them a line on their talk page and invite them to come and join us? That way, we can finally use thour lovely shiny new Welcome banner template. We hope eventually to be able to use this newsletter to show off about the vast numbers of new members we have joining us each month, rather in the way that the newsletters of other WikiProjects do.

Collaboration of The Month

This month's COTM has remained unchanged as no-one has nominated any articles to become the new incumbent. Quick - get yourself down to the COTM page and nominate an article for next month!

Assessment

Just a note to say that there are two articles down at the Assessment page which have requested assessment. Please could a member of the project pop over and assess them for us? It's only a small task.

Whilst we're on the subject of assessment, an ongoing task is to assess every article within Category:Unassessed Theatre articles, feel free to make a start on a few when you have a moment.

And finally...

Don't forget to add the WikiProject Theatre userbox to your userpage to spread the word about the project!

We're currently looking for members to volunteer in the compiling of this newsletter each month - please drop us a line at the talk page if you're interested in helping - be it in the delivery or writing processes of it!

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Participants on the WikiProject page. If this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the Participants list and also click here to stop receiving the newsletter.

WikiProject Theatre May 2008 Newsletter

[edit]
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (May 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 3 - May, 2008

Welcome to our third newsletter - we've got lots to get through this month so without further ado, let's crack on...

The Big Debate - Character Lists in Play Articles

For those of you who haven't headed over to our talk page recently - you've been missing out! Throughout the past month there's been great discussion about the issue of character lists in play articles. The aim is to form a standard presentation of character lists to be used on all play articles so if you'd like to make your voice heard on the issue then check out the talk page now.

Collaboration of The Month

Yet again this month's COTM has remained unchanged as no-one has nominated any articles to become the new incumbent. Quick - get yourself down to the COTM page and nominate an article for next month!

Assessment

The number of articles at the Assessment page are growing - if you're feeling a little lost and don't know where to begin to help us out, head on down to the Assessment page and give us a hand.

New members

The past month has seen Dereksmootz, Duckie for broadway, Dozenthey, Fewster, Nrswanson, Kleinzach and Broadweighbabe join us - welcome to you all! It's wonderful to see such a large influx of new members.

If you've been editing a theatre-related article recently and noticed another user helping you who also appears to have an interest for the subject of theatre, why not drop them a line and invite them over to the project?

HELP!

We're crying out for people to help us out wherever possible. We are currently looking for members to volunteer to give us a hand in several areas. If you can do any of the following, please drop us a line at the talk page:

  • Newsletter Editor(s) - Always fancied yourself as a bit of a journalist? Perhaps you could help us write this newsletter - it doesn't take long to compile. Maybe you'd like to help but can't commit on a regular basis? In that case, why not rally round a few other members of the project to help you out and take it in turns each month to compose the newsletter?
  • Mailmen/women - If writing the newsletter isn't your bag then maybe you could help in the distribution of this fine document? As our membership grows it becomes quite laborious to send it to everyone. It's only a quick task that needs doing once a month, and really is just a case of copying and pasting a template onto our members talk pages.
  • Portal editor(s) - It's come to our attention that the Theatre Portal hasn't been updated in a long time and we'd like to get someone, or a group of people to take charge of it and get it up to the standard of some of the great portals out there (e.g. the Comedy Portal, the Solar System Portal etc).
And finally...

Don't forget to add the WikiProject Theatre userbox to your userpage to spread the word about the project!

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Participants on the WikiProject page. If this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the Participants list and also click here to stop receiving the newsletter.

WikiProject Theatre Newsletter - February 2010

[edit]
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (Febrauary 2010)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 5 - February 2010

Welcome to the latest WikiProject Theatre newsletter (the first in quite a while!) bringing you news of what's going on in the project, what progress we're making, and how you can get involved.

Latest News
  • All theatre articles currently tagged with a project banner have now been assessed for quality. There are still plenty to assess for importance, though - see the article assessment page for details.
  • There is now a News section on the main project page, updated automatically to keep us informed of developments in theatre articles.
Collaboration of the Month
  • Theatre has been nominated as the next project collaboration. This could be an excellent opportunity to improve the quality of one of our most important articles - listed as one of Wikipedia's top 1000 most vital articles - but it needs a lot of work before it can be considered for even good article nomination!
  • Stop by the collaboration page for tips on how to improve an article, to add your support, or to suggest alternative or future collaborations.
Jobs you can do

Any and all improvements to theatre-related articles will help the project, but if you're looking for something to do, have a look at the to-do list. Some current areas of priority are:

If you are currently working on a particular topic or area of the project, and would like to muster some support from other editors, feel free to add tasks to the to-do list. Or even think about setting up an informal working group - create a project subpage to organise tasks in a central location. Remember you can always discuss ideas with others at the project talk page.

Welcome, Yemenis!

[edit]

Hi guys,

Thank you and Welcome! Basically I've been a contributor to WP for sometime, and I also have a strong interest in Middle Eastern languages, history and culture. A couple of us noticed that coverage of Arabic literature was really really terrible which is really sad because Wikipedia is the main place that people come to these days when they want to learn about a subject/person, etc. So even if I don't speak or understand Arabic, I trawled the internet and googled as many different ways as possible and compiled a list of Yemeni authors. (I am going to move on to other Arab countries eventually but I started with Yemen because it seemed to have the least information of all.) When I started last month, there were just two entries on AA Maqalih and the poet Baradouni. So I started working on the list systematically and so far me and another user, we've added about 40 authors, the links are in blue. To keep track of progress, I also created the template. The links in red are still to be done.

Because I have no expertise in Arabic, the information resources I have on Yemeni lit are very very limited. Basically it boils down to 3 or 4 main sources (mainly in English, one in Italian) and the rest I have had to google as creatively as possible. Even so, it's possible to get a sense of the outline of the country's literature - i.e. some of the big writers are Dammaj, Abdalwali, Ahmad Mahfuz Umar, etc; the big poets include Maqalih and Baradouni; the well-known young writers are people like Wajdi al-Ahdal and Nadia al-Kawkabani. Still, there are big gaps - for example, there is nothing on Al-Zubayri although I understand he is an important figure. So basically, I guess what I am asking you guys, who are Yemeni and also fluent in English, is for some help in identifying the major writers (say top 10 or top 20) and help to fill out the gaps in their profiles. If there is someone who is totally missing, then please feel free to give us names. Among the important things that would be good to have would be:

  • place of birth
  • education details, if available
  • worklife details, if available
  • progression of literary career and
  • list of main books (novels, short stories and poetry collections) with dates. Also where they are these days and what are they up to (although this is less important).

So there it is! I really appreciate your taking the time to read this, and I would be absolutely thrilled to get any help from you at all. Hopefully some of you will have access to resources or you'll know of people who are willing and able to help.

Thanks a whole bunch! -- Peripatetic/Zuberino

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

[edit]

Hello Peripatetic,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

[edit]

Hello Peripatetic,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

[edit]

Hello Peripatetic,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).
